Question 10: Values and Culture

Are values such as human rights, democracy, respect for diversity and gender equality ones that Canada should continue to advocate in all parts of the world? If so, what are the best ways of doing this?

Answer:
Canada must be more outspoken in its support for countries which share our values, and more outspoken in its censure of countries which are not democratic or violate human rights. In international fora, such as UNHRC, we should denounce attempts to demonize democratic countries, such as Israel and the US while ignoring gross abuses of human rights elswhere, such as Congo and Sudan.
