If one looks at US foreign policy, especially that of the military and the CIA, one has to look no further than George Herbert Walker Bush.
An ex-navy pilot from WWII, he has been involved in underhanded politics longer than anyone. He was President, Vice Pres, CIA director for Gerald Ford, he was on the board of directors for PEMEX, a Mexican oil conglomerate that sought to expand oil development in the Gulf of Mexico. To that end, Central America had to be 'brought in line' with US control, and many dictatorships flourished if they were US-friendly regimes. CIA agent Manuel Noriega is a prime example. Bush Sr. has been pulling political strings and running assassination campaigns before he ever entered politics. As far as I could tell, he was in a position to control US foriegn policy from about 1975 until the present day.
I wonder how far the apple has fallen from the tree.
